Standards Under Development with GSFC Participation - Data Standards

The Data Systems Standards Manager (DSSM), Code 450, is responsible for the development and recommendation of Data Systems Standards. The DSSM is a standing member of the Standards Review Committee and reports to the GSFC Technical Standards Coordinator.

Data standards under development with GSFC participation are organized under the following topics. If you have an interest in the described efforts, please contact the DSSM or the GSFC-affiliated individuals identified below with the standard for additional information about these efforts.

  1. Communication standards
    Ground to space, space to ground, space to space, and ground to ground. These standards address the protocols used to move data from point a to point b. These also include data delivery services and protocols, and the management of such services.

  2. Data representation and packaging standards
    These include descriptions of formats, methods for expressing the meaning of data, and methods for packaging data.

  3. Data archiving and preservation standards
    These include processes and formats for the long term preservation of information.

      (Internal CCSDS Draft based on Research Library Group (RLG) and US National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) guidelines)


    • XML Telemetric and Command Exchange (XTCE), CCSDS 660.0-R-2 and ISO 2xxxx
      (Draft CCSDS, OMG and ISO Standards)
      (Final CCSDS Standard expected 4th Quarter 2007)
