GSFC Standards Participation by Individuals - How to Participate

Volunteer to Help Review Proposed Standards Documents

We can always use more help ensuring that proposed standards are adequately reviewed.

GSFC receives documents both from within NASA and from outside organizations. We review these documents with an understanding that they may become NASA Preferred Standards. When we complete the GSFC review, comments generated by the review process are sent to the organization requesting the review.

If you would like to be contacted when GSFC receives proposed standards to review, please contact the GSFC Review Coordinator, Dr. George Alcorn and tell him you would like to be on the Proposed Standards Review list.

Join a Standards Developing Organization

It is important for NASA to participate in Voluntary Consensus Standards Developing Organizations. Through the NASA participants, unique NASA requirements and priorities for standards are identified and addressed. This allows NASA to adopt standards accepted and used within the wider community. This may also allows NASA to obtain Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) products, which will likely lead to reduced costs and shortened time lines.

The simplest way to get involved may be to identify other individuals at GSFC or within NASA who already participate in the organization. Those individuals should be able to guide you in the proper procedures to use to join that organization.

If there are no NASA participants or if you are already in contact with the Standards Developing Organization, please feel free to investigate joining their organization.

Remember, once you become a participant in their organization, we need to track your participation. Please follow the directions below to report your participation.
